The Leon Day Statue Project

About the Committee to Honor Leon Day with a Memorial Statue

Our mission

  • To honor the many achievements of Baltimorean Leon Day, pitcher for both the Baltimore Black Sox and Baltimore Elite Giants, with the first life-sized sculpture in Baltimore dedicated to a Negro Leagues baseball legend.
  • To memorialize National Baseball Hall of Famer Leon Day and his diverse achievements as one of the most versatile athletes of his time.

Our vision

To inspire Baltimore youth and baseball fans and the general community through Leon Day’s example, learning through his extraordinary accomplishments of strength and determination, maintaining focus and consistency against great odds.

Purpose

Funds are needed to complete the project and to install the sculpture of Leon Day along “Leon Day Way” outside of Camden Yards.

This project has the support of the Leon Day Foundation.

The committee is working towards:

  • Establishing a partnership with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.
  • The support of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, Maryland.
  • Commissioning an African-American Maryland sculptor to create the life-sized statue of Leon Day
